Circumcision: In simple terms, it is the removal of the foreskin covering the male child’s penis (the foreskin) to protect him from diseases and infections, especially urinary tract infections.
Causes:
Low birth weight
Jaundice
Undescended testicles
Small penis
Redness of the skin in the abdomen and feet
High fever in the infant
Vomiting or stopping breastfeeding
Yellow fluid in the wound
Difficulty urinating
The best surgery is the fastest recovery, which takes a few days and the wound heals.
There are many types of circumcision:
1. Ring circumcision
2. Laser circumcision
3. Thermal circumcision, but surgical circumcision remains the best because healing is faster.
Neonatal circumcision is usually performed in the hospital nursery, usually within 10 days of birth.
For neonatal circumcision, your baby will lie on his back with his arms and legs restrained. After the penis and surrounding area are cleaned, an anesthetic will be injected into the base of the penis or applied as a cream. A special clamp or plastic ring will be placed around the penis, and the foreskin will be removed.
Then, an ointment, such as a topical antibiotic or petroleum jelly, will be applied to the penis and the penis will be lightly wrapped with gauze. The procedure generally takes about 10 minutes.
Circumcision in older boys and adults is similar. However, the procedure may require general anesthesia, recovery may take longer, and the risk of complications is higher when performed later in life.
