Description

Labiaplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure that aims to alter the labia minora (inner labia) and labia majora (outer labia), and may also include minor cosmetic procedures on the folds of skin surrounding the vulva.

There are two main categories of women who seek cosmetic surgery, or rather, genital surgery: those with congenital abnormalities such as intersex conditions, and those who experience physical discomfort or wish to change the appearance of their genitalia because they believe they are unnatural, unattractive, or for similar reasons. [1] The size, color, and shape of the labia vary considerably from woman to woman, and they can also change as a result of childbirth, aging, and other events. Certain conditions must be met before undergoing labiaplasty, including congenital defects and abnormalities such as vaginal atresia and Müllerian malformation (defects in both the uterus and fallopian tubes), as well as tears extending to the labia minora due to childbirth or other events.

As a general rule, a plastic surgeon corrects the shape and size of the labia majora and minora and also removes fat from the suprapubic area. A gynecologist performs procedures to restore the hymen, correct tearing due to childbirth and general deformity, as well as vaginal cosmetic surgery. All of these procedures, with rare exceptions (hymenoplasty, labia minora and majora correction due to hyperplasia (local anesthesia)), are performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. At the end of the procedure, special self-absorbing sutures are applied. These sutures do not need to be removed.

As a rule, the likelihood of complications arising from such modifications is minimal due to the excellent blood supply to the genitalia, which contributes to the healing process.

>Type of operation: Labiaplasty, which is a cosmetic surgical procedure aimed at reducing or modifying the shape of the inner or outer labia, improving the consistency and reducing the discomfort caused by swelling or sagging.

The procedure can be performed under local or general anesthesia, and cosmetic preparations can be used during the cosmetic surgery. The labia minora are often injected to create swelling in the tissues, thus constricting the blood vessels and reducing bleeding.

Labial augmentation is a relatively simple procedure involving the removal of tissue from the free edge of the labia minora. While techniques vary from doctor to doctor and from country to country, generally, clamps are placed around the targeted area to stop blood flow, allowing for tissue resection. The labia minora are then cut, or rather, reshaped. Most surgeons perform this procedure because it is relatively simple and does not require extensive experience. This process aims to create wrinkles in the labia minora and then refine the edges to achieve an aesthetically pleasing appearance. However, this procedure does carry some risks, particularly to nerve endings, which may be damaged. Furthermore, it is possible to enhance the area by making the labia minora more prominent and by pushing the tissues to make them pink or red. Complete labiaplasty is the most common method, often requiring further surgery to correct the area. It's important to note that this method does not address the clitoris; in fact, the procedure may result in clitoral deformities, necessitating further corrective surgery.

Women typically experience no pain during the surgery and can usually leave the hospital the same day. However, post-operative care is essential, and doctors recommend wearing sanitary pads for comfort. It's also worth mentioning that the labia minora often swell during the post-operative period due to fluid retention caused by the anesthesia and tissue injections. It's advisable to clean the incision site and apply an ointment or antibiotic two to three times daily for several days after surgery.
